Tuesday 2nd May Slightly later start this morning, with that misty promise of a hot day to come. Up north to Fazeley Junction, where we head east on the Coventry Canal; through a flight of locks at Atherstone, finally mooring for the night at Hartshill: site of the last pub before Nuneaton. Scenery an extreme contrast of beautiful Warwickshire countryside punctuated with the industrial scars of slag heaps, quarry pits etc. On a culinary note, some of our readers have enquired as to our diet. After a healthy breakfast of strawberry jam and coleslaw (yesterday's) on toast and cheese sandiches with crisps for lunch our evening meal sported a poorly cremated pizza, with one of those new age salads that haven't been chopped up much ... followed by a mixture of cold tinned rice pudding, tinned pears with evaporated milk topped with cornflakes. Most of the above is washed down with naval rum, 4-packs of generically bad supermarket beer and bottles of wine-lake overspill (99p per bottle). The day ended on a high note: The Anchor Inn had Old Speckled Hen at 1.65/pint!
