Cheshire ring 1990

The boat was called Montrose and was hired from Anglo Welsh's Bollington base (now moved to New Mills) on the Macclesfield Canal.

This was an amazing trip, full of adventure and rather a lot of drinking. No connection to the fact that this was Steve's first trip. We also double brested with a crew from Stirling Prison through the Manchester locks. I also had a rather special brew which we nicknamed Fridge (because it would evaporate if left at room tempreature). The trip notes which have just come to light refer to hangovers on the Thursday but as yet the many photographs of this part of the trip have yet to surface. Simon refers to this trip in his memories letter, on the Home page, from Canada

We were also joined for the trip down from Whaley Bridge by Ted and Ann.  Ted was recovering from a major operation and did not make the trip but was thrilled to have a go on the tiller.  We put on a lovely spread for lunch, I am hoping that more photographs of this great day will come to light.

I believe this photograph was taken where we were moored up between bridges 146 & 147 on the T&M, very near the Romping Donkey, close to the M6. I think we can now be certain that there was only 5 crew members this year, open to correction of course.

The crew were left to right: David King, Mike Newport, John Parmenter (Captain), Steve Platt (for the first time) and Simon Gates.

Letter home with trip notes for first part of week
