Greetings All,
Long time no hear.
However, I have enjoyed reading the memories of our canal boat holidays.
Attached are some photos from the one and only canal boat trip I went on.
I am pretty sure this was in the autumn of 1987. 1987 because I had graduated that year and I felt like a bit of a treat. I think that the club did two canal boats that year and I went on the second one.
Looking at the photos, it was a small band, including Dave K, John P, Simon G and Ted C plus me. I have a feeling that Steve P joined us half way through the week, hence one of the photos has Steve's bike on baord.
From what I can remember this trip started at Trevor, we went up the canal getting increasingly difficult to navigate as the canal got narrower and narrower, still Ted just steamed ahead. Eventually we found somewhere to turn around and came back down. We then went over the aquaduct, looks scarry, and no railings on one side. I am sure Simon who steared us over was having kittens. The thought of smashing into one of the side walls and us emptying the canal kept going through my head.
I cannot remember much else apart from it being pretty cold and the fact that we were partaking in a lot of alcohol at several nice pups along the canals.
Oh yes, I remember John P standing inside the boat at the front with the door open and his rear pointing through the door, claiming that it was necessary to let the wind out of the boat after a good hearty breakfast!!!
If anyone can fill in the blanks that would be good.
73s all
Cheers and beers
